Connecting Two Vertices Without a Shared Face

First, I love this app. 5-star reviewed.

I am looking for the best way to bridge two vertices in a certain situation. Imagine I’ve created a “U” shape out of a plane and I decided I want to connect the two vertices at the top of the U as in this image (wireframe mode):

I can’t use the “bridge” function right now for these as they don’t share a face. What’s the best way around this? I know I can extend the “bottom” edge so that it is even with the top edges.

However, after doing this, I now have duplicate edges.

Is there a better way to connect these vertices that doesn’t leave duplicate edges? I’m finding myself needing to bridge two vertices like this in my designs quite a bit right now.

I’d share more screenshots but the forum software says that b/c I’m a new user, I can’t embed more than one image.

Have you tried to merge these vertices together?
